Blog Post: Role-Play Activity on Power Sharing
Power Sharing: Case Studies of Belgium and Sri Lanka as the Class Topic
We did a role-play activity in today’s Social Science class to make learning about Power Sharing more fun and useful. The goal was to make real-life political situations more real by examining how Belgium and Sri Lanka share power.
How It Worked: Students acted like instructors and boldly talked about the differences between the two countries. They talked about how Belgium used a flexible and welcoming paradigm to include all communities, while Sri Lanka’s majoritarian approach caused problems and unhappiness among minorities.
Learning Outcomes: Students were able to do the following through this fun and creative activity:
- Understand the idea of sharing power outside of school.
- Learn how democratic ideas operate in real-world governments.
- Make their speaking and writing better.
- Find out how important inclusive governance is for keeping peace and harmony.
- Take part and think critically.
Student Reflections: The classroom was full of excitement as kids eagerly participated, asked questions, and shared their thoughts. It was nice to see kids make connections between historical and political ideas and how they affect the world now.
Conclusion: This role-play session was fun as well as enlightening. It helped students learn by doing, deepened their comprehension of concepts, and changed how they thought about democracy and government for a long time.
